Our Florida Keys Team held our final pre-trip meeting on December 1st and received final details for preparations for the trip this past week. The team is scheduled to be divided into three different work crews to assist with different projects in the Florida Keys. 

Crew 1: The first work crew will be provided an opportunity to work with some of the Florida United Methodist Church NOMADS (See more on NOMADS here: https://www.nomadsumc.org/). The NOMADS have just begun working on a house so, this crew’s focus will primarily be on helping with drywall installation in Big Pine Key.

Crew 2: The second work crew is scheduled to work on a couple of houses in Sugarloaf Key that are very close to being finished, with the goal of helping to complete them by Christmas! This crew will be taking care of the “punch list” that includes items like installing a few new cabinets in the kitchen, installing closet doors, etc.
  
Crew 3: This work crew will be working on other projects like building a deck, etc. in Ramrod Key.


We depart from the church today at 1:15 PM, will fly to Miami and rent a van. We will then drive to Marathon, arriving around 10 PM tonight. We begin our first day of work at 8:30 AM Monday morning.

Thank you for your continued support for our Florida Keys Mission Team as we continue to trust the Lord with the plans that He has for our time in the Keys the first week of December.  The Florida United Methodist Disaster Response Team will be providing further details on the exact projects our team will be assisting them with during our mission trip around the beginning of December. As we continue to prepare for our team’s departure to the Florida Keys, God has graciously provided sufficient funds to send the entire team on the trip. God has even provided funds in excess of the total fundraising goal for the trip! Hurricane Irma made landfall in the Florida Keys on Sunday morning, September 10, 2017, as a Category 4 storm, bringing powerful winds of up to 130 mph, rain and flooding. Wind gusts of 120 mph were noted in Big Pine Key and a storm surge of up to 10 feet was recorded.  Our team will be involved with home reconstruction efforts in any way we can, (replacing drywall, painting, installing flooring, etc.). Our desire is to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus as we help rebuild the homes and lives of those who are continuing to recover from Irma in the Florida Keys.   Thank you  praying for our team of 10 as we prepare to go. Keys Team - Final Post - Thank You!

On Saturday evening, we PTL that our FBA Florida Keys Mission Team arrived safely back to Georgia after a wonderful week serving the Lord in the Keys! The trip was considered a success from the fact that God provided the team with the wisdom and strength to accomplish a number of projects that helped to achieve the following results: A very friendly elderly woman that some of the team developed a relationship with now has a new porch deck that she will be able to use even in the event that she is forced to use a wheelchair. A couple of the team members also cleaned her house while they were waiting for things to do to help with the porch deck. The elderly woman’s dogs are also able to enjoy the new porch deck with her as they no longer have to go up and down steps. A volunteer firefighter whose house had its roof ripped off was provided with a materials list and detailed instructions for how to complete the work so he could finally finish the restoration work two years aft
